A sunny morning and up with the lark. Time for an hour or so in the office before mounting my motorbike and heading to Dorchester for an arranged meeting with Cllr Spencer Flower, who leads the new Dorset Council. I had wanted to see him for a little while to get a full briefing on how the new council was doing, where it was heading etc, etc. Our meeting was in confidence, but our conversation was wide ranging, including a good dose of politics! Then, down to Weymouth to visit former veteran Andy Price, who runs the Veterans' Hub on Portland Road. He and his team began this drop-in centre for veterans with nothing and he now has a large team of volunteers around him and has developed the area behind their cafe into a vegetable garden, with three raised beds. A weightlifting room will soon be on line as well as a reading room at the rear. It's incredible what he has done in the short time he started this help group and many veterans are now benefiting. He is now taking steps to form a charity, which will formalize the organisation. A quick bite to eat at the Shell garage, and then to the council offices for a full surgery. Traffic was heavy all day, so I was grateful for having taken the bike. It does make a huge difference. Fun too.
