Here we go again! As news of this new covid variant OMICRON became more and more dominant on all news' outlets, a feeling of dread came over me that, once more, we were heading to ruinous lock-downs. In the Chamber at 1530, I listened carefully to a Statement by Health Secretary Sajid Javid. He warned that our current vaccines "may be impacted" and confirmed there had been five confirmed cases in England and six in Scotland. More cases had been confirmed in other countries. Mr Javid went on to explain that more countries had been added to the so-called red list. And to prevent the spread of the virus here at home, he said that anyone in close contact with someone with a suspected case of OMICRON would have to isolate for 10 days, face coverings would once again become mandatory in shops and on public transport and that both these measures would be voted on tomorrow. UGH! More sensibly, Mr Javid said that the booster programme would be expanded to include all remaining adults aged 18 and above, that the booster jab should be given three months after the second jab not six, and that children aged between 12 and 15 should be given a second dose 12 weeks from the first. I would agree that the jabs do appear to be working, reducing the impact of covid dramatically and I do recommend that people should have them. Much to catch up on constituency-wise before I headed to David Davis' office for a drink with colleagues. There were no votes. Home at 2000.
