It's not often I am shocked by stories from constituents, but today was an exception. Clearly, I will not name them, but for three years they have fought a well-known developer to have the many faults with their brand new house repaired. Exhausted and at the end of their tether, they do not know where to turn to next. I have been trying to help them, but assurances from the company that all would be well have proved meaningless. Naturally, I will not stop trying to have this long-running issue resolved to the couple's satisfaction, but this saga has truly shaken me and my faith in honesty and integrity. Top of the news today were the new figures for net migration. They were shockingly high and something must be done. Our small island cannot take these hundreds of thousands so migrants. Our resources are already stretched to the limit, not least housing. With millions of people on out-of-work benefits, it is they we should be targeting. There are plenty of jobs and our citizens have no right to sit on their backsides if they are capable of working and contributing, rather than taking. In other news, a man was arrested after crashing into the gates at Downing Street. An extraordinary event. The health secretary insisted the government would meet its manifesto commitment to build 40 new hospitals in England by 2030 - despite having to add five new sites to the programme over safety fears. Nine people, including three 15-year-olds, were arrested as part of an investigation into the serious disorder that unfolded following a fatal crash in Cardiff. And a fresh search linked to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in Portugal was ended.
