Up early and into the Commons to retrieve my motorcycle, before heading to Dorset. With the reshuffle underway, it was time to write to Michael Gove, now in charge of housing, communities and local government, to lobby hard on Dorset Council's (DC) behalf for our share from the Levelling up Fund. DC has submitted a bid for £20 million, on which a lot depends. Plenty of constituency work to get on with. In Covid news, the first booster vaccines were given to NHS staff in England and Wales as part of plans to extend protection for millions this winter. Jabs will be offered to the over 50s, health and care workers and younger adults with certain health conditions. Those eligible should receive a booster at least six months after their second dose. One dose of Pfizer or half a dose of Moderna is recommended and people would be contacted when it's their turn. After infuriating the Chinese by banning their Ambassador from both Houses, they're now furious about an historic security pact between the US, UK and Australia, describing it as "extremely irresponsible" and "narrow minded". The deal will see the US and UK give Australia the technology to build nuclear-powered submarines for the first time. It is being widely viewed as an effort to counter China's influence in the contested South China Sea. The region has been a flash-point for years and tensions there remain high.
