I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed that the PM has pulled off a coup and secured a Brexit deal that we can all live with. I told my local paper today that I gave the deal a cautious welcome and was waiting for the ERG's star chamber to report back next week having scrutinised every line. It looks and sounds good, with fishing causing some controversy. Everything will become clearer next week. On the back of the deal, the PM has vowed to focus on "levelling up the country" and "spreading opportunity". Mr Johnson told the Sunday Telegraph the deal would provide new legislative and regulatory freedoms to "deliver for people who felt left behind". But fishermen's leaders have accused him of "caving in" and sacrificing their interests to reach the agreement. Labour called it a "thin deal" that needed "more work" to protect UK jobs. In coronavirus news, a further 30,501 positive tests were reported on Sunday, as hospitals in parts of the UK warned they were at risk of being overwhelmed. It came as doctors in Scotland warned that the health system was "severely stretched" and a Welsh hospital made an urgent appeal for help with Covid-19 patients on Boxing Day. Finally, gusts of more than 100mph have been recorded after Storm Bella brought heavy rain and high winds to large parts of the UK. The Needles, on the Isle of Wight, saw gusts that reached 106mph (170kmh). A yellow warning for snow and ice - meaning disruption is likely - was issued by the Met Office for Northern Ireland and north Wales, north-west England and southern Scotland. A blustery end to 2020!
