First up was another of our fortnightly virtual meetings with senior Dorset Council (DC) officials, councillors and MPs. These have proved very helpful and effective. The good news is that the infection rate continues to fall. DC area is now 47/100,000; BCP 57/100,000; England 81/100,000; and the SW 44/100,000. Those with Covid in the county's hospitals are also down and over 300,000 people in Dorset have now had their first jab. Most encouraging. We also discussed the transport infrastructure and council budget, which, like all local authorities, has been stretched by this pandemic. The row over NHS pay rumbles on, with unions threatening strike action. Nurses been offered one per cent and the Government said it cannot afford any more, with the rest of the public sector subjected to a pay freeze. Much constituency correspondence to keep me busy while trying to establish what exactly we can all do to reach the voter for our two town council elections and the PCC. There appears to be some confusion on all sides. Caution is needed, I think, not least because we are all still under these restrictions. The Meghan/Harry interview, to be broadcast this weekend, continues to cause a stir, sadly. Personally, I think silence is golden.
