Despite all the doom and gloom, the economic news today was encouraging. Inflation in the UK fell to its lowest level in four years last month, after a record drop in fuel prices and with the cost of clothing and energy continuing to tumble. The Office for National Statistics said the rate of Consumer Price Index inflation fell from 0.8% in April to 0.5% in May - the lowest since June 2016. And to those who love football, the Premier league returned to our screens, but without the presence of the fans. Sadly, it appears that the body of the missing teenager, Oscar Montgomery, has been found in the sea off Portland. What a terrible tragedy. Understandably, residents living near the Richmoor, Mon Ami and Riviera hotels are complaining about anti-social behaviour of those living there. This is temporary accommodation for some of the most vulnerable members of the community who the council had to house during this pandemic. I have been working with all those involved, not least Cllr Ken Whatley, and clearly this is a very difficult problem to resolve. However, I will raise it at our weekly conference call with Dorset Council on Friday. On a separate matter, I am hoping that the council will be able to aim some of its grant money from the Government at businesses that did not quite quality now that it has more discretion to do so.
