Another extraordinary day. The coronavirus continues to make its presence felt. The PM announced drastic new measures, urging everyone to work from home if possible and to avoid pubs, clubs and theatres. He said now is the moment to stop all nonessential contact and to avoid all nonessential travel. The over-70s, pregnant women, and those with underlying health conditions must be particularly vigilant. Whole families must now self-isolate for 14 days if just one member of the family has a new persistent cough or fever. From this weekend, those with the most serious health conditions should be shielded from social contact for 12 weeks. The advice came as the number of confirmed cases in the UK rose to 1543. Will all this change the way we live? I think it will, indeed, I think this is a game-changer in virtually every walk of our lives. Of course this wretched virus is a risk to our health, especially to the elderly, but it's also devastating the economy and people's livelihoods. The important thing is to keep calm and level-headed. Panic buying is NOT the solution. We will have to play this day by day, with the PM listening to his medical advisers and acting accordingly.
