RICHARD DRAX, the Conservative South Dorset MP, today welcomed five aspiring young journalists from Weymouth on a visit to the House of Commons.
Richard hosted a visit from the five teenage girl pupils, from Budmouth College, who were visiting Parliament as part of an exercise to secure a front page story for their school newspaper, ‘The Bud Mouth’.
During the visit, the teenagers, aged between 14 and 17 year’s old, were able to able to ask Richard, himself a former BBC journalist, a series of in-depth questions, including whether MP’s should be paid more, why Richard chose to be in the public eye and what issues he feels passionately about.
Speaking after the visit, Richard said: “I was delighted to be able to help out and spend some time with these budding young reporters. They asked a number of very good questions, and put me on the spot more than once.
‘I gave them some pointers if they want to be the real thing. The main one is never to give up. I remember writing to every newspaper in the country when I decided I wanted to be a journalist.’
‘I wish them well – and I can’t wait to see the next edition of the ‘Bud Mouth.’
