The row over Mrs May's proposed deal rumbles on. Naturally, the Remainers love it, as it keeps us in the EU in all but name. And, as expected, we who wish to honour the EU referendum result are now the Devil incarnate, disloyal and threatening the end of the world as we know it. It was so predictable that I have repeatedly warned colleagues who have the integrity and courage to stick to their guns that this would happen. With rumours that Michael Gove is about to resign, he's being followed around by the press pack keen to report his final decision. What is coming out in the press now, unless you read the Daily Mail, whose new editor - a staunch Remainer - is taking a different line to his predecessor, Mr Dacre, most papers are reporting that this deal is indeed a cop-out, fatally flawed and leaves us at the mercy of the EU, but with no one at the table. Anyway, bobbies on the beat (my column for this week) concern me, or the lack of them. I went to meet the new chairman of the Dorset Police Federation, Inspector Anna Harvey, and two other members of her teamĀ at 10010. Over a coffee and delicious eggs and bacon we chatted more nearly two hours about the state of policing in Dorset. Our conversation was in confidence, but I am sure you can imagine what we touched on. I remain very concerned. Then, back on to my motorbike and across to Portland to open an extension to Derek Luckhurst's wartime museum in Castletown. A lot of people had gathered there, including the delightful Mayor, Cllr Charlie Flack. I gave a short address, cut the ribbon with Derek, and then chatted with everyone before looking around the museum itself. Time then for one of my regular surgeries at the council offices, before heading back to the office where I worked through to 1900. An interesting week!!
