An early morning run in cold conditions began the day. A haircut and into the Commons. A lot to catch up on and then into the Chamber at midday for PMQs. Corbyn was unimpressive, attacking on EU matters that the PM batted away easily. A working lunch and then into Committee Room 8 for an evidence session with Caroline Nokes, the Immigration Minister at the Home Office. The European Scrutiny Committee was inquiring into citizens' rights as Brexit negotiations continue. Ms Nokes was accompanied by Glyn Williams, Director-General in the Home Office responsible for policy on the UK's border. It was a long and interesting session. Later in the afternoon, I spoke to the local paper about the social behaviour in Weymouth, which has caused a lot of concern and understandably so. I am due to meet Inspector Yeoman shortly to talk about this and other matters. As the afternoon progressed, the latest employment statistics came out. The rate of employment is 75.2 per cent, close to a record high. Unemployment is 4.4 per cent, close to the joint lowest in 1975. Encouragingly, youth unemployment has fallen by over 40 per cent since 2010. This is all very good news. Votes came through the afternoon as the Finance Bill went through. Back to Dorset at the end of the day.
