It was off to an early start and heading to Portland. Unfortunately my progress was slowed somewhat when I discovered my bank account had been hacked. That was soon resolved and then it was down to the immigration centre at The Verne. There I met the chairman of the Independent Monitoring Board, Janice Pavitt, and Assistant Chairman Chris Miller. I listened for some time to a number of issues they had, although they both expressed supreme confidence in the Governor and his staff. The issues, which are confidential, were of a different nature and ones I have written to minister Robert Goodwill MP about. Clearly, the former prison officers are dealing with a different clientele. Detainees are allowed phones, for example, and are not subjected to the same laws that prisoners are. So running an IRC is a different game and it is a credit to the staff that they have adapted so well to their new role. After a couple of hours it was off to my regular surgery at ASDA. Four constituents came to see me and I will of course do all I can to help them. A busy day.
