Richard Drax, MP for South Dorset, today “entirely endorsed” Prime Minister Teresa May’s speech in which she set out her 12-point objectives for Brexit, saying that she wants Britain to be “a great, global trading nation that is respected around the world and strong, confident and united at home.”
“It was a great speech,” says Drax,” The Prime Minister made it clear that not only does she have a plan for Brexit but also that she aims to win the best possible outcome for this country.”
“She was completely unambiguous and no amount of spinning can alter her core point; that we will leave the European Union and endeavour to get the right deal for Britain as we do so.”
Following the speech, David Davis, Secretary of State for leaving the European Union, answered questions on Mrs May’s Brexit blueprint in the Commons.
During the questions, Drax asked the Minister to confirm that he shared his optimism that the millions of EU workers whose livelihoods rely upon exporting to the UK, would prevent their leaders and politicians from imposing punitive trade tariffs on Britain after Brexit.
“The Secretary of State agreed,” says Drax, “There would be no point in such a self destructive response from other EU members. We are part of Europe and we will always trade with Europe, but from now on, we will do so on our own terms.
