Yesterday's result was indeed an historic occasion. The Britsh people were given a referendum on this vexed question of our relationship with the EU and the verdict was delivered in the early hours of Friday morning. Under all circumstances, it must be respected and followed through. Any attempt to thwart this momentous decision should be treated as a direct attack on a democratic decision. Nothing could be more serious. Now is the time for hope and optimism, a chance to forge a new and exciting path where we are in charge of the direction of travel. There are bound to be a few jitters post Brexit because the Remain side have talked down the country for so long now in their attempt to keep Britain in the EU that everyone's expected our beloved island to sink beneath the waves. It won't, of course. President Obama, having lent his support to Project Fear, is now saying that the special relationship between the two countries will carry on and his earlier comments that we'd be placed at the back of the queue regarding trade agreements were reversed only days after theywere uttered. And, today, Rolls Royce have said that leaving the EU could have a positive impact on the company. I could go on. At the end of the day we have simply taken back control of our destiny, with democratically elected politicians, who you can boot out, making the decisions. What on earth is so wrong with that? Of course we will trade, work with, move around and enjoy all that Europe has to offer, and that applies to all the young too, but we simply will not be told what to do by unelected bureaucrats. Any politician or bureaucrat who stands in the way of common sense is unworthy to hold the post. This tremendous decision on Friday morning is the opportunity this country has needed and we must take it in both hands and use it wisely for the benefit of all our people.
