So far, I have refrained from responding to Peter Oborne's recent column on loyalty, where he claims that in the past 'rebels' didn't push their agenda out of respect for their leader and Party. Christopher Booker makes an astute observation in today's Sunday Telegraph on page 26, which I would urge everyone to read, because it's so true. As a former soldier, my instinct was to obey, and that was easy to follow because the guiding principles which held my Regiment together were always adherred to. Politics, sadly, is a very different game, although it shouldn't be.
