Today's Sunday Telegraph reports that my colleague David Davis has given the Prime Minister six weeks to produce a "clear and precise" plan on exactly what our future relationship with the EU should be. I concur. The time for talking is over and we, and the British people, want, and deserve, action. How many times have I read in the press and heard in the broadcasting media commentators say something along the lines of: "The same old Tory Party, tearing itself apart over Europe again, when all people care about is the economy, jobs, health, etc ..." It's a line normally spouted by those with a Socialist leaning. It's meant to stifle debate and portray all those who question "ever closer union" as off the wall or simply nutters. Nothing could be further from the truth. The EU affects every aspect of our lives, especally those areas that voters really are concerned about, not least immigration and control of our borders. And it is not until we finally see the elephant in the room, and do something about it, that the UK will flourish and move forward. Until that moment, we will continue to exist like the living dead, cursed by an unaccountable bureaucracy, which blatantly ignores democracy to achieve its aim. For the only way to make a Federalist state work is to introduce rules and regulations that bind a completely disparate group of nations ever tighter, crushing sovereignty, independence, history, currencies and even our identities. In simple terms, the vision is truly Orwellian, and I for one will fight it for as long as I live. I believe one of the Conservative Party's guiding principles is to 'conserve' those ideas and beliefs that have sustained our nation for so long and it's time we stood up for our people and our future before it's too late. It's time to lead, not only ourselves into the light, but other nations, too, trapped by a con trick that is already failing across the board. The way forward is very clear and simple to me. We trade with Europe, but we are not ruled by Europe.
