An early start on BBC Radio Devon. They wanted to speak to me about my end of day adjournment debate on the Portland SAR helicopter. A run afterwards and then into the Commons. Two of my team from Dorset came up for lunch and I managed to get them both into PMQs. Miliband was pretty much crunched again. A good lunch with all my team, to say thanks, and then a private meeting, before working on my evening speech. The Energy Bill was being debated in the Chamber which, again, I abstained on. I am not convinced our energy policy is on the right tracks, relying as it does on heavily subsidised renewables, like wind farms, which I oppose. By 7pm I was in the Chamber and ready to be called after the vote. At c7.05pm I was called and I launched into my speech. I had some notes to help me keep the thread, but most of it was from the heart. I have followed this particular topic for some years now! I got little from the Minister, who was not even the right one. Mr Hammond was elsewhere. I spoke for about 20 minutes, lambasting the Government for failing to consult on this important issue. How anyone can think of removing a helicopter without even visiting Dorset is quite beyond me. You can read my speech on my website, but I did not hold back. I then worked until 9pm before eventually heading down to Dorset.
