WHAT a night.
Democracy in action saw circa 900 people pack into the Weymouth Pavilion for an OUT rally hosted by the Chamber of Trade and Commerce.
I was one of four speakers, the others being Labour MP Kate Hoey, entrepreneur Tim Martin, chairman of Wetherspoon, and Nigel Farage.
The evening began with a stunning performance from One Voice Weymouth, a local choir led by Grazina Ellis.
Personally, I’ve never addressed such a large audience, but nerves were calmed by the warm reception.
Armed with a few notes sellotaped to the palm of my hand, I launched into my 15 minute address.
My message was that the 23rd June is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take back control of our country, and we must grab it.
Labour’s Kate Hoey was next.
Courageous and principled, she argued her case clearly, winning over the audience with her forthrightness and honesty.
Her integrity shone through like a beacon.
Tim Martin followed.
A very tall man, he dominated the stage, reminding us all that politicians don’t create wealth and jobs, businesses and trade do, and that would continue whether we left or remained in the EU.
Finally, it was the turn of a man so often wrongly maligned.
Nigel Farage spoke passionately and with conviction.
His arguments were thoughtful, well-rehearsed and factual.
I saw a man fighting for his country and was proud to be sharing the same platform.
I cannot conclude without thanking Phil Say, who runs the Pavilion, Julie Storey, who managed us all superbly and the rest of team, including technicians and security staff, and Jeff Cant, the evening’s compere.
Last night summed up what we are fighting for.
A country where the elected are directly answerable to the voter.
Nothing else measures up.
Freedom day is 23 June.
Vote to leave.
