Richard Drax, MP for South Dorset has welcomed two new, Government multisports grassroots facilities awards for the constituency.
The grants are part of the ‘Get Active Strategy’ - a Government initiative to get over 3.5 million people more active by 2030, including one million young people.
In South Dorset, the awards provide most of the investment needed for projects at two local football clubs. Wool and Winfrith FC, at Winfrith Newburgh recreation ground, is to receive £1,080 towards the £1,785 needed for new goalposts and Portland United FC, at Grove Corner playing fields, will get £7,551 towards the total cost of £10,068 for floodlights.
“I am delighted that these deserving local clubs will get some help,” says Drax. “Team sports are so important, both physically and mentally, and we must all do all we can to encourage them. These clubs are invaluable local resources and I am so pleased that the Government has contributed to their continuing operation.”
The Government intends that a total investment of over £320 million between 2021 and 2025 will help to level-up grassroots facilities, target those communities most in need, and increase participation in sport among under-represented groups.
