Richard Drax, MP for South Dorset, has officially been made an Honorary Watchkeeper at Portland Bill by the National Coastwatch Institute.
Drax was presented with a commemorative plaque and certificate in recognition of his “invaluable and continued support of the National Coastwatch Institute Portland Bill (NCIPB).”
He joins HRH The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral, Sir Tim Lawrence, who are both Honorary Watchkeepers at Portland.
Station Manager, Geoff Peters, who made the presentation said, “We are so pleased that Richard Drax accepted the title in recognition for all the support he has given Coastwatch over many years.”
“I am deeply honoured to be so recognised,” says Drax, “The National Coastwatch volunteers are the salt of the earth and to join their team, particularly in such august company, is genuinely special. The NCIPB kindly invited me to become an Honorary Watchkeeper in 2020 but covid intervened; I am delighted and moved by this mark of esteem from those I hold in such great respect.”
