Easter break over, I headed to Weymouth on yet another overcast day. I was visiting the Veterans' Hub on Portland Road to catch up with veteran Andy Price, who founded the project. The work Andy has done is remarkable and over 1,000 veterans from all over the country pass through. Many are signposted to where they need to go for help or treatment, while others just enjoy the camaraderie and support. The Hub has expanded somewhat since its conception and now boasts an office, shop, cafe, weight room and a special treatment facility at the end of the back garden. As you'd expect, the volunteers are all special themselves and I was delighted to see that a Dorset Council representative was now embedded in the organisation. I spent 90 minutes chatting to everyone, before heading off to campaign in Weymouth with Peter and Cllr Jo Dickenson. I popped into to see two constituents who wanted to see me over an issue they've been trying to resolve for some time. I will do all I can to help. Heavy rain just after 1500 stopped play. In other news, the Government announced the expansion of free childcare. While I accept that some mothers would welcome this, I cannot help but wonder why we are so keen to see mums hand their children over to the state at such a young age. I would have thought supporting mums to stay at home was equally important. Author JK Rowling challenged Scotland's pernicious, new hate crime laws by listing 10 high-profile transwomen on her X account, before insisting they were “men” and inviting Police Scotland to arrest her for saying so. The police said her comments were "not assessed to be criminal" and no further action would be taken. The world has gone mad! Abroad, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed his military's "unintended" airstrike had killed British nationals in Gaza, along with other aid workers. A child was killed and two others seriously wounded in a shooting at a school in Finland. And at least 29 people were killed and others badly injured in a fire in Istanbul in a club that was undergoing renovations.
