Today, I headed to Portland for a meeting with the new Principle and CEO of IPACA on Portland. Joss Hayes has had quite an introduction since her fairly recent appointment. The academy is on target to open this September and I wanted to get the latest on this large project, which has rumbled on now for years. I think it fair to say that it's been pretty divisive and still is to some extent. But the hope now is that once it's opened, everything will move forward in harmony, especially for the students of course. My conversation with Ms Hayes was in confidence, but it was all positive and I left wishing her well. Back to the office to finish off this week's column and then deal with many constituency matters. In the evening, I switched on to watch a bit of the ITV debate on the EU. The Remain side had Ms Rudd, Ms Eagle and Ms Sturgeon, while our side was represented by Ms Stewart, Ms Leadsom and Mr Johnson. It didn't take long to notice that the target of the Remain bile was aimed at Mr Johnson, especially by Ms Rudd. Her performance was nasty and unnecessary, while the Leave team behaved with great decorum and stuck to the arguments. I can imagine that Ms Rudd had some practise at delivering her lines and I cannot think who would have put her up to it! I was saddened, as we are talking about the future of our country, and such personal attacks on individuals give little credit to those who deliver them.
