A run and then a morning of personal admin - hair and dentist - as my platoon sergeant used to say. A catch up with my parliamentary team for an hour and then down to the Chamber for PMQs. As usual, it was a rowdy affair, with the PM putting on a strong performance, reminding us and the public just what Starmer stands for. A quick sandwich at my desk, and then across to PCH to meet a team representing the Men's Shed. I have them in my constituency and they provide a wonderful facility for men of all ages to get together and construct something while enjoying each other's company. Having spent some time with a nice gentleman called Tim, I headed to an office in Westminster Hall to meet another organisation that is fighting for a fair deal for pharmacies. A pharmacist from Sussex explained the dilemma to me after I'd told him about the closure of the chemist in Fortuneswell. Having listened to him, and understood the vagaries of the NHS, I asked him to send me a brief on his issues and I would raise them with ministers. I also had a chat with a charming journalist called Tom Scotson, who works for Politics Home. Government business in the Chamber ended at about 1730 and I remained coping with my full in-tray, which is seldom, if ever, empty. It had been a very sad day, as I learnt in the morning that my former chairman and good friend, George Preston, had died, having suffered from Motor Neurone Disease for a year. George was the salt of the earth, with a loving and devoted family. George has been there for the Party, me and his country consistently. His wonderful sense of humour seeing us through some challenging times. I shall miss him hugely, as I know will many, such was the man. Rest in peace, George. And my deepest condolences to all the family.
