At this stage in my life, I ignore my birthday and instead count downwards to combat the aging process! However, back in the House today for another week, I was baffled at first why so many colleagues wished me a happy birthday. I later found out that the Times published it and that it had been placed on a very active WhatsApp group. Anyway, I had a lovely day, ending with supper with my wife and friends. As for the day itself, I sat in on the Statement on the situation in Gaza made by Andrew Mitchell. I unfortunately missed his contribution, so was unable to ask a question, but listened instead. I find some of the contributions from the Opposition Benches really quite shocking. I had an interesting virtual meeting with a constituent who is pursuing a certain path following a tragedy and will organise a meeting with the relevant minister. Also today, the Government said it would ban disposable vapes as part of plans to tackle the rising number of young people taking it up. The Rwanda Bill faced its first test as the House of Lords began to scrutinise it. The King appeared in good heart as he left hospital after undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate. And, abroad, America was "not looking for a war with Iran" as it continued to assess how to respond to a drone strike which left three US soldiers dead in Jordan.
