A morning on constituency matters in the office, before battling the traffic to Kinson Community Centre in Bournemouth. There the charity the Cherry Tree Nursery was holding its annual Christmas party. I am a Patron of this charity, having first filmed there some 14 years ago when I was a reporter with the BBC. The nursery is run by one of the most remarkable women I have ever met, Jess Davies. She inherited a piece of wasteland near the airport, which has, over the years, been transformed into an efficient garden run by more than 100 people who have mental health issues. Jess' dream has come true through her sheer force of character. She was told it was not possible, but the nursery is living proof that nothing is impossible. They have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for new buildings and the number of clients is now so large that Jess is having to turn people away. At the party, volunteers produce the food, while Jess and a small team have wrapped over 100 presents, which are handed out by Santa after lunch. It's a joyous occasion and so uplifting. Jess is supported by a fantastic team, who work around the clock to ensure the nursery is run properly. I have spoken to many clients there and they all say it's been a lifesaver, literally. There they regain their self esteem and confidence, as well as making great friends and feeling part of something special. I had to leave in the afternoon for another meeting, but seeing Jess's brainchild in action never fails to move me. There was no one for my surgery at ASDA, so back to the office for more casework and correspondence.
