In the morning I headed to Weymouth to sell poppies in the square. I met Naomi Turner at 1000. I was handed by collection box and was soon selling poppies. I much enjoy these sessions because a lot of people come up and chat and a rather tuneful band decided to set up and play which added to the occasion. I asked the musicians where they came from. Their English was poor but I learnt they came from Romania, Spain and Portugal. At midday I had to hand my box to Naomi, who was selling poppies inside Asda. Then I raced back home, leapt into a suit and drove to Bloxworth church for the funeral of Reg Adams, who was our head forester for many years. The Service was well attended and we all packed into the small and attractive church. The Rev Hugh Maddox took the Service sensitively and charmingly. Reg was very well-known and he touched many lives during his career.
