Back to the Commons. Today, 10 amendments to the Rwanda Bill had come back from the Lords and we rejected them all. The voting started at 2000 and finished just before 2200. What the Lords would do next with the Bill was anyone's guess. I suspected they would send it back to us again, despite the large majority for the Bill in the Commons. Concerned at the loss of a pharmacy in Fortuneswell, Portland, I had booked an appointment to see minister Andrea Leadsom. I spent 15 minutes with her, only to have it confirmed that Dorset Council (DC) assessed need, which is what I'd been told by both DC and the ICB. I have written again to DC in the hope they can bring forward the date they next look at this, which is currently 2025. Later, I attended a most interesting and private meeting with Defence Secretary Grant Shapps. There were about 15 MPs there and we received an update on Ukraine and on one or two other topical issues. I am seriously concerned about Ukraine. There is a staggering complacency in the West to properly arm the Ukrainians, although I am proud at what we are doing to help. The cost of protecting NATO's eastern border if Ukraine falls would dwarf what we are currently paying to keep the Ukrainians fighting. In the US, a c$90 billion dollar package is held up by political infighting and the expected return of Donald Trump as President. Europe nears to gear up and deter a future war by preparing for one now. On the political front, Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch rightly told those speculating about a change of PM to belt up. Foreign Secretary David Cameron said Vladimir Putin's win in Russia's election that will extend his rule as president for six more years was "not democracy". Eight men were sentenced over their involvement in violent disorder after trouble flared at a hotel housing asylum seekers. It was the end of an era for British cycling, as Dame Laura Kenny announced her retirement. And, abroad, eyewitnesses suggested that Israeli forces had launched a "reinvasion" of Gaza City after the al Shifa hospital was raided overnight.
