First up was a lengthy private meeting of our Defence Committee. We went through the draft report on the readiness of our Armed Forces. It will be released later in the week. Taking all the evidence for it had been very interesting, as will reading it when published. A virtual meeting with a constituent followed and then it was off to CR11 for a piece of Delegated Legislation on Trade Union law. The Media Bill ended with several votes at about 1800. In a dramatic twist to the Northern Ireland political situation, it seemed that the devolved government would finally be restored after nearly two years after Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) agreed a deal to return to power sharing. Knowing how sensitive this issue has been, I do hope it takes the Province and our United Kingdom forward. In other news, the attorney general ordered an independent review of the Crown Prosecution Service’s handling of the Nottingham stabbing case and whether it had sufficiently consulted with the families of the victims. A man, who was shot dead by officers in southeast London, was carrying crossbows, a knife, a sword and a hatchet. Unhelpfully, and beyond its brief, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) "advised the UK against further tax cuts", as it launched its latest assessment of the world economy. And Israeli troops disguised as doctors, nurses and women stormed a hospital in West Bank, killing three Palestinians.
