Another full and interesting day. As always when we return to Parliament after a recess there are plenty of things going on. After a busy morning in the office, I dropped down to the Chamber for PMQs. It was almost a cert that Mr Corbyn would concentrate his fire on the NHS and, sure enough, he did. To be fair, he raised some pertinent issues, which the Prime Minister responded to well. Mrs May keeps calm and measured and handled herself well. The question of health care and how we afford and deliver it will be with us for some time. As our population grows and people live longer the pressure on the NHS mounts. Personally, I'd like to depoliticise the NHS, ask a board of experts to look radically at provision of care and return with their recommendations. The cost of the NHS can only continue to rise and there must be a more efficient way of running this precious asset. Following PMQs, I had a quick lunch at my desk before heading to Committee Room 19 for this week's session of the European Scrutiny Committee. It was held in private so I cannot say too much. However, there was no doubt among the members who attended that we had to keep a close eye on Brexit matters. Afterwards, I drafted this week's column for my local paper and continued to work on plans by the commercial helicopter company, HeliOps, to take over the SAR base on Portland. I also wrote to Helen Wright, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday. She lives in Weymouth and is still active, pursuing a love of painting.
