Off to the dentist first thing and then down to Dorset for a ministerial visit. Jake Berry was following up on a meeting that he and I had had about emergency funding for Weymouth's creaking sea walls and sea defences. His officials have already met the local authority's, so this a generous and helpful move on Mr Berry's part. He arrived at the council offices in Commercial Road at 1530 and was met by CEO Matt Prosser, officer Martin Hamilton, Leader of the council Cllr Jeff Cant and Cllr Richard Nickinson, who has the economic brief. Mr Hamilton led Mr Berry out into the sun and showed him the marina and sea walls before we began to walk to the Pavilion Theatre to meet about 30 business leaders. We chatted as we walked, explaining that the town needs a little love and investment. At the Theatre, we went upstairs to meet business leaders. Mr Berry gave a short address and then took questions for about an hour. His answers were well received and we had a most useful meeting. After it had ended, we took Mr Berry to a fundraising evening at Briantspuddle Village Hall, where more than 50 members enjoyed listening to him.
