A busy old day with two committee meetings in public. The first was our Defence Committee, where we took evidence from James Heappey, the Minister for Armed Forces, Air Vice Marshall Allan Marshall OBE, Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff, Commitments, Lieutenant General Charlie Stickland CB OBE, Chief of Joint Operations and Paul Wyatt, Director General Security Policy. We asked questions on Ukraine, the state of our Armed Forces and the significance of Sweden and Finland joining NATO. A most interesting session, which can be seen on Parliament TV. A quick lunch with an old friend and then to CR8 for a meeting of the European Scrutiny Committee. Today, we took evidence from Marnie Lovejoy, Head of Evidence and Environmental Law, British Association of Shooting and Conservation, Nick von Westenholz, Director of EU Exit and International Trade, National Farmers Union, and Vicki Hird, Head of Sustainable Farming, Sustain. Another very interesting session and again one that can be seen on Parliament TV. The session looked at where agriculture is now that we have left the EU. Business ended just after 1900.
