Today I met Andy Price for the second time. The first occasion was in Bournemouth Square, where he and a hardy band of brothers were camping out in the street to highlight the plight of veterans with mental health issues. Andy, a former soldier himself, has set up an organisation called Veterans' Hub, based in Weymouth, where he lives. Its aim, as I say, is to drawn attention to the many veterans who, for one reason or another, end up on our streets. This evening I hopped on to my motorbike and headed to the former ferry terminal in Weymouth. Andy has called upon the kindness of another charity, which leases the room, to enable him to hold his weekly meetings. It was well attended tonight. I met the family of a former serviceman who has tragically taken his own life. They have offered their support to Andy and it was a real pleasure to both meet and talk to them all. I spent a couple of hours there, chatting to attendees and listening to feedback. I have written to the council's CEO on a couple of points that arose. I found the experience a poignant one. As a former soldier myself, you never forget your time in HM Forces and there's always a feeling of camaraderie when you meet veterans. There's no doubt that more can be done to help those in dire need, although the Government is doing a lot now.
