The Dorset LEP has a new chairman, Jim Stewart. I'd met him recently when I launched the new enterprise zone at Winfrith and was impressed. Jim replaces Gordon Page, a delightful man who has retired after doing an excellent job. The LEP is the main source of Government funding, so it's an important organisation and one that I have been working closely with on a number of issues, not least better rail connectivity. We met at the impressive Bournemouth University, which has come on leaps and bounds, with a multi-million pound investment and growing academic achievements. It's a great success story and all credit to them. Jim's office is within the complex and we sat down and chatted for an our about all matters South Dorset and of course county-wide too. He was very supportive of my aim to bring investment and jobs to Weymouth and Portland and understood the need for both rail and road improvements if we are to achieve that. I also explained that Weymouth needs about £30 million to rebuild its sea defences so that much-needed investment can be given the go-ahead by the Environment Agency. Lots to do.
