A slightly later start today. We packed our bags and checked out as we were heading to Naples in the afternoon. First up, though, was a visit to the Defence Ministry to meet the Minister of Defence, The RT Hon Guido Crosetto. The first thing to note about this remarkable man was his size. I'm 6'3" and he dwarfed me. I would guess he was about 6'7" and strongly built. In December 2012, he founded the Fratelli d'Italia (Brothers of Italy) with the now Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the first woman to hold this position. Mr Crosetto is highly respected in Italy and I could see why. He spoke knowledgeably and carefully on the threats the West faced, not least from Russia's invasion of Ukraine, before taking several questions. Then it was to the Leonardo, the huge defence company, which will play a large role in the development and manufacture of the next generation of fighter. We all crowded into their Boardroom and met Chairman Marco Buratti and other senior members of the company. We talked for an hour about this latest platform, which is due to be completed by 2035. We were then taken upstairs to their large roofspace, which provided a stunning view of Rome. We enjoyed a light lunch and continued chatting about the project until it was time to drive to Naples. It was a three hour journey in two minibuses. The motorways were good and clear, so no delays. Into Naples and our hotel by the sea in the early evening. We found a very nice fish restaurant nearby and then to bed.
