A routine day really until later afternoon, when the news broke that Marine A had been granted another hearing by the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC). I jumped for joy as this major legal obstacle was negotiated successfully. Congratulations to everyone who has played a part in this fight for justice. I must give a special tribute to Alexander Blackman's legal team, led by the most able Jonathan Goldberg QC. What a fella. We have all hoped beyond hope for some months now that the CCRC would come down on our side of the argument and so it has. Clearly, there's a way to go yet. Mr Goldberg has to apply for bail and the hope is to have Al released by Christmas. Then there will be the court case in circa six months' time. Who knows what it will decide, but we hope for a verdict of manslaughter with diminished responsibility. Having spent three years in jail already, Mr Goldberg believes that if the court issues this verdict, it's unlikely that Al will be sent back to prison. What a victory for justice that would be. Anyway, for the moment, Al's wife Claire is celebrating in her own dignified way and we are all doing likewise.
