First up was a breakfast gathering with the NFU. President Minette Batters was there on typically combatant form. She's just what's needed and a breath of fresh air. All political Parties were represented and there were a number of speeches. At 1145, I entered the Chamber and took my seat for the weekly bout. Again, the PM did well, I thought. We then had a private meeting of the Defence Committee, after which the Chairman resigned. I have nothing further to say on the matter. A sub-committee, ably chaired by Robert Courts, then began. We were looking at Service accommodation and took evidence from Collette Musgrave, CEO of the Army Families Federation, Sarah Clewes, CEO of the Naval Families Federation, and Maria Lyle, Director of the RAF Families Federation. All there knew their stuff and were most impressive. You can watch the 90 minute session on Parliament TV. In other news, the father, stepmother and uncle of Sara Sharif, 10, were arrested on suspicion of murder after returning to the UK from Pakistan. More than 5,000 people were confirmed to have died in eastern Libya and tens of thousands displaced after severe flooding. And North Korea's Kim Jong Un visited Vladimir Putin for talks on supplying weapons for use in Ukraine.
