We heard the general election result in S Dorset at about 0415, if I recall. We had held, gaining 56.1 per cent share of the vote, up on 2015. The turnout was high at 68.7 per cent. My majority now stands at 11,695. Labour's share of the vote rose at the expense, it would appear, of the Lib Dems and the Greens. This trend was repeated nationally. The first sign that the election had not gone as planned was the BBC's exit poll just after 2200. It showed we would win c314 seats, thereby losing our majority. As it happened, that poll was pretty accurate, although we actually had a few more seats by the end of the count. It is not for me here and now to express my feelings at this result, other than to say I am naturally disappointed. But, there we go, this is politics, and it's now onwards and upwards. I would like to thank all those who voted for me. Many did not and my comment to them is that I will continue to do my best to represent everyone, without fear or favour. It is a huge privilege to be called to serve again for the third time and I will do my utmost to do just that. Interesting times lie ahead, that's for sure.
