An early start to a busy day. At 1100 I headed down to Kimmeridge in pouring rain to visit the newly opened Etches Museum. After being totally impressed by the tasteful finish, I entered to be met the museum's chairman Richard Bond and the man himself Steve Etches. What a man. He began his world-beating collection of fossils when he was only five years old and has ever since retrieved these gems from the clay of the Jurassic Coast. Today his collection is truly unique and I would recommend to anyone to pay the museum a visit. It's bright and airy and everything has been displayed in a sensible, clear and user-friendly way. After a tour, we walked across to the local restaurant Clavells for lunch. There we met up with Sir Michael Hobbs, a former General, who lives in the village and has played a large part in backing the museum's construction. I have to say that the mushroom soup that I chose was the best I've ever had. Again, I do recommend you go and visit this charming eating place. After lunch I drove to the East Dorset Golf Club - not for golf - to meet up with the Dorset Police Federation. There I met PC Tony Tester and Sgt Tony Eggleston, chairman and secretary, respectively. They are two of the most charming and able police officers who are doing a superb job representing their rank and file. Again, the conversation was in confidence, but the topics were all police related to Dorset, as you can imagine.
