Early start to the day with my first meeting with PDC cllrs at our Association HQs to discuss Purbeck matters. As always, there are several issues bubbling away, including cyclists and a proposed National Park, which I do not support. I then met one of our Police & Crime Commissioner candidates, a charming gentleman called David Sidwick. A former businessman, he was clear-headed and business-like. I have no doubt he would make an excellent PCC, but first has to be selected. That won't happen to the autumn. We discussed police matters and the proposed merger with Devon and Cornwall. Then the chief executive of Dorset Healthcare University Trust, Ron Shields, arrive, along with two of our Portland councillors, Cllr Katherine Garcia and Cllr Kerry Baker. We'd promised residents who attended the recent public meeting on the island that we would follow up and we have. Mr Shields is already in conversation with the Rev Tim Gomm and he plans to have further meetings on the island to discuss what healthcare provision they want and where it should be located. It was a most instructive meeting and all of us were much reassured that Mr Shields would do exactly what he has said he would do. Then, in the evening, I went to the hall in Wool for a meeting of our Members. It was well attended and I briefed them all on the political situation before taking questions.
