Why a country cannot be in control of its money, laws and borders is quite beyond me. A poignant day here in Dorset as I attended the funeral of William Ernest Wadham - Ernie to us all. He was 94 when he died and had had a full life. More than 150 family and friends packed St Mary's Church just outside Lytchett Matravers. The Service was simple and touching, with Peter Webb giving a wonderful eulogy. Ernie's association with us goes back some 60 years. He was a country boy through and through and loved his dogs, shooting and his Landrover. Ernie was a character and one that will be sorely missed. Plenty of constituency matters to deal with in the afternoon. In other news, a man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, following the fatal stabbing of a woman pushing her baby in a pram in Bradford. Two men were jailed for life for the murder of a footballer who was stabbed on a nightclub dance floor. And, millions of people enjoyed a once-in-a-generation experience in Central and North America by taking in the rare sight of a total solar eclipse.
