A run and into the Commons. First appointment was with Treasury minister Robert Jenrick, who was holding a session with MPs from the SW to listen to their spending requests. Infrastructure, especially road and rail, is high on the agenda, and I used the occasion to again push for better rail connections to Weymouth, via Yeovil, and a road to the north, which we simply do not have. I also submitted another request for the £18 million we need to repair the sea walls and improve flood defences. Back to my office briefly before a round-table discussion about defence, chaired by Labour's Meg Hellier. We were briefed by National Audit Office officials Jeremy Lonsdale and Keith Lloyd. There is no doubt that budget difficulties loom in the future as huge projects like our two aircraft carriers come on line. It might interest you to know that our annual spend on defence is £35.3 billion, with £8.9 billion of it spent on military personnel. It was an interesting debate, which ran into PMQs, today handled by David Lidington. The Brexit debate continued, with many of us deeply unhappy with the PM's proposals, to be announced in a White Paper at the end of the week. Constituency matters and my weekly column kept me busy in the afternoon.
