A corker of a day. The summer has arrived and is here to stay according to the weather team. Out on a run in the morning and then into the Commons for a long, hot day. After a short stint in the office, I crossed to Portcullis House to meet the Wessex branch of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB). The FSB comes up to the House about twice a year to brief MPs on what they've achieved and of course to lobby us to create a better climate for business, for example, reducing the negative effects of business rates. On that point, the Govn has committed to reviewing business rates, which is to be welcomed and something I and many other MPs campaigned for in the last parliament. Among the FSB team was Ken Moon, the charming regional chairman. He explained that regulation was still a huge burden, especially for the smaller businesses or start-ups. Our meeting lasting for more than an hour and was very interesting. SMEs are the lifeblood of our economy and it's important we listen to them. A working lunch at my desk and then dealing with a range of matters, from the SAR base on Portland to Marine A, whose wife I am working with. The Scotland Bill was in the Chamber all afternoon and the House rose after four votes at 1800.
