Today I visited the brave and dignified Gill Harler, who is battling ovarian cancer, which sadly is terminal. I am saying this as she has fought in public for higher recognition of this awful disease for many years and is not afraid to speak out about her own condition. I spent an hour with this remarkable woman, who has done so much for others and continues to work tirelessly to ensure all women, especially younger women, to be aware of this threat. We had a most helpful letter back from the minister recently, saying the Government was aware of the issue and was doing all it could to publicise it. In the evening a colleague of mine, Kwasi Kwartang, came to speak at our Supper Club. He gave a most interesting talk and went down a storm with everyone. He's a highly intelligent gentleman, author and effective MP. It was good of him to come all the way down to Weymouth. He savoured the three hour journey from London on the train and was very sympathetic with my effort to get faster trains to the resort via Salisbury and Yeovil.
