We were warned the the 'Beast from the East' and Storm Emma were going to collide over the south of England, bringing snow, ice and blizzard conditions. I had an appointment with Inspector Steve Yeoman in Weymouth and called him to ensure it was still one, wondering whether he and his officers might be busy dealing with snow-related matters. It was on, so as the snow began to fall, I headed to Weymouth in my faithful Landrover. My meeting with Inspector Yeoman was in the strictest confidence, so I cannot relay what was said. But it think perfectly proper to say we talked about the drugs' issue, anti-social behaviour and policing in general. Chief Inspector Ian Roe joined us and we had a most useful and informative talk until an officer stuck his head in the door and said that the road over the ridgeway was closed. With freezing rain forecast, it was time to climb out of Weymouth and head home. I left via Osmington and although it was snowing the road was clear enough to drive safely. It took me more than an hour to get home and the journey was uneventful. News reports were beginning to fill with stories of abandoned cars and lorries, trapped motorists and rail and air delays and cancellations.
