Frustratingly, a clash between a confidential meeting of the Defence Committee, and the start of the general debate on Ukraine, meant I was not allowed to contribute. However, I have put the content of the speech I would have made on the website. First, I attended Defence Questions, where the new Secretary of State was absent after his father had passed away. I did catch the Speaker's eye and offered Grant Shapps my condolences before asking my question, which is on the website. There followed a Statement on the discovery of an alleged Chinese spy working in the Commons. Two men have been arrested. The Statement got quite heated, with several colleagues telling the Government to call China a 'threat'. We were on a one line all day, so I left the Commons at about 1800.
