Two days before polling day, today, the Prime Minister will be in the West Midlands and the North West where he will outline why it is only the Conservatives who have a plan to get Brexit done.
- The danger of another hung parliament is clear and present. There are attempts underway to prevent a Conservative majority through tactical voting.
- Jeremy Corbyn and his Lib Dem, SNP and Green allies need only 12 more seats than last time to make Jeremy Corbyn Prime Minister and continue the chaos of a hung parliament. A vote for any of these parties is a vote for further indecision and two more referendums, on Brexit and Scottish independence.
- On the other hand, the Conservatives need only 9 more seats for a majority. We could finally get Brexit done, end the uncertainty and move on to the people’s priorities like schools, hospitals and tackling crime and take advantage of the opportunities that Brexit provide.
Meanwhile, new analysis has revealed that Labour’s plans for 108 new taxpayer funded quangos has been revealed. The analysis shows:
- Pledges in Labour’s 2019 manifesto alone commit to the creation of at least 108 new quangos - unaccountable public bodies paid for by the taxpayer.
- The running costs of these new quangos will be a minimum of £1.86 billion per year - adding up to £9.32 billion over five years.
- This is on top of another £3.93 billion in upfront costs which will be required to set up and finance these quangos.
A Conservative majority government will look at decriminalising the non-payment of the BBC's TV License Fee.
- Too much time in our criminal justice system is taken up by TV licence enforcement – which accounts for almost one in every 12 cases in our magistrates courts, with women making up over 70 per cent of those convicted.
- That’s why we will look at decriminalising its non-payment, freeing up resources that could be used instead to make sure those accused of offences like assault, theft and possession of dangerous drugs receive justice.
- By doing this we can make sure we are able to continue to support public service broadcasters, ensuing they thrive as part of a healthy media landscape without a system which drags thousands through the criminal justice system unnecessarily.
There are now only two days to go. These are the key points you need to remember as you’re speaking to voters on the doorstep:
This election is happening because a gridlocked and broken Parliament refused to respect the referendum result – or let the government govern.
The choice is between a majority government that can act or another paralysed hung Parliament that cannot.
A Conservative majority government will:
- Get Brexit done
- Ensure there are 50,000 more nurses and put record investment in the NHS
- Recruit 20,000 more police and tougher sentences
- Invest in education, technology, and infrastructure to drive opportunity and prosperity
- Keep economy strong and debt low
- Take back control of immigration with an Australian-style points system
A hung Parliament stuck in neutral with more of the same indecision and uncertainty we have had for the last three years:
- Corbyn as PM propped up by Nicola Sturgeon
- Two more chaotic referendums on Brexit and Scotland
- A reckless economic policy that takes us back to square one – with higher debt and taxes you will pay for
Every vote counts, and the Conservatives only need 9 more seats to win a majority government that will:
- Stop the chaos
- End the uncertainty
- Get Brexit done
- Unleash Britain’s potential
