Political correctness (PC) in all its guises is slowly but surely killing this great country of ours. Health and safety, human rights, equality laws, litigation, legislation, gay marriage - the list is endless. Only the other day I was told that signs have to be placed on modern frigates, warning of slippery surfaces when wet. And now a report commissioned by the BBC says that children's programmes should have more gay and lesbian presenters. Has the world gone mad? I worked alongside gays and lesbians in the BBC for nine years and not once did they use their sexuality to gain promotion or favours. That's the way it should be. This insidious creep of the state, some pushed by the likes of Clegg and, indeed, Cameron, are potentially catastrophic. Our police force has already been targeted and successfully brought to heel. More social services that service, the officers can only operate in an environment of fear; fear of doing their job properly in case officers are taken off the streets to deal with complaints and accusations. To monitor them, we now have police and crime commissioners, most of them with political affiliations or agendas of their own. Again, madness. I am told by those who are serving in the armed services that the whole ethos of turning a civilian into a soldier has changed. I am not surprised because PC does not recognise the need for discipline and an infrastructure. It's the enemy of high standards, freedom of expression and tolerance. Make no mistake, this is a battle for the very soul of our country and, if you don't believe me, come and see me in 20-30 years' time when we are characterless, leaderless and run by a unelected president in the EU. Wake up, our great nation, before it's too late.
