I cheered to the rafters today as the new head of the health service, Simon Stevens, said that we needed cottage hospitals. So say all of us, especially in Swanage where the community hospital has been under threat for a while. It's survived one consultation exercise, has seen a another cancelled and is now awaiting the verdict of Ron Shields, the new and capable chief executive of Dorset Healthcare University Trust. The 'Friends of Swanage Hospital', led by the determined Jan Turnbull, and others, have been telling the powers that be of the importance of our cosy hospital for a long time now. So, everyone is over the moon that the NHS boss himself agrees with us. Where better to deliver local care to local people than in their own local hospital. Well done, Mr Stevens; more please.
