With the Coalition Government in the process of making it easier for developers to move into the green belt, not nearly enough is being done to tackle uncontrolled immigration, thereby reducing one of the pressures on new housing. Net migration might well be down a bit, but it's still unsustainable, placing terrible burdens on our creaking infrastructure, schools, roads et al. Despite the natural moat that surrounds our island, we cannot protect our borders because of the EU. It really is as simple as that. The free movement of people within the EU was always nonsensical, although well intentioned. We need a visa system for all those who want to come to this country so we can monitor those who come and go. Naturally, priority should be given to those who are going to contribute positively to the country, but it's time we took control of our borders before our island sinks beneath the weight of its responsibilities, which increasingly cannot be met.
