The papers are full of chit-chat about a leadership challenge to David Cameron. Mid-term, post Eastleigh and with a recent poll giving Labour an 80-seat majority if an election was held now, it's not surprising that some nerves are a little on edge. However, I am not one who espouses the 'steady as she goes' position. I believe that to be complacent and dangerously out of touch. Both our narrative and actions must be far more radical if we are really to galvanise our great country and its people, to face and defeat difficult times by sheer audacity, out of the box thinking and optimism. Tinkering at the edges in a Coalition which is hampering progress, as I always predicted it would, is no longer an option. The Prime Minister has to lead the way, turn all his attention to the burning issues affecting the UK and, if necessary, ditch the Lib Dems for the sake of the country. They have reneged on the boundary changes, a treacherous move, and now spend their time promoting more government expenditure and higher taxes. We cannot continue to borrow the billions of pounds we are, if only to keep interest rates low. The flood of money will eventually lead to inflation and interest rates will have to rise to combat it. We will then be looking at econonic devastation. The only answer is to drastically cut government expenditure, cut taxes and create an environment which encourages people to work and in which entrepreneurs and businesses can thrive. There is a way forward, Prime Minister; for the future of our country, please take it.
